Coming out video of a Tibetan Gay
The video by 24-year-old Tenzin Phelps from India, sharing his story as a Tibetan gay, has become one of the most talked about video in the Tibetan cyberspace this week.
Sharing the video on his facebook, Tenzin wrote: “I really do hope it reaches maximum audience, especially in our society who’s only good for gossip, and never talk about LGBT issues. We can’t blame them, since its totally new (in our society) and i wanted to break the ice, and make its existence felt. More importantly, i want this video to reach to all those who are still hiding, scared of what will happen next. If you ever feel alone, feel free to message me and i’ll do whatever i can to help you, make you feel at ease. ”
The video, which has been viewed 17 k times so far, has over 100 plus comments which are very supportive to Tenzin for being “ brave, honest and being himself.”
Among those adding comments include Jampa Monlam from US, who is “the first Tibetan to come out as gay,” according to some comments. He got married with his partner Keith in 2009. Here is the video of their wedding posted on YouTube.
Its great that gay tibetans are coming out and the Tibetan community seems to be accepting of them. I also saw Tenzin’s videos, I think its great. I am a white gay american and i had no understanding of Tibetan LGBT community. Few months ago I came across a blog by a gay Tibetan (www.gaytibetan.com) and that made me interested in understanding more about the Tibetan LGBT community.
