Exciting times and bright future for Tibetan films in Tibet
Film making scene inside Tibet was unknown to outside world until Pema Tseden’s debut film,The silent Holy Stones, made news internationally.
There has been no turning back since then for Pema Tseden as he made a new film ready in every two years. Each of this film got bigger and landing up in prestigious international film festivals like Venice Film festival and winning Best Film Awards.
In Tibet and China, Pema Tseden’s Tharlo became the first Tibetan film to be released nationwide in 2016. His latest Jinpa released nationwide in 2019, was not only critically acclaimed but a commercial success, competing with Hollywood Avengers at the Box office.
As the number of Cinema halls in Tibet and the interest among the Tibetan’s to watch film in their language is growing, Pema Tsetan and the Tibetan film watchers are hoping for a bright and booming Tibetan Film Industry in Tibet.
