First Lady inaugural day dress and the Tibetan connection
The ocean blue dress worn by the First Lady Dr. Jill Biden on the US president Joe Biden inauguration day was designed by Markarian, a New York-based luxury womenswear label.
Markarian’s production manager Tibetan-American Tenzin Samphel is ecstatic to be part of the team behind this dress.
“Dr. Jill Biden in Markarian. So honored and humbled to have been able to be a part of this. ..Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think that I’d be a part of helping dress the First Lady of the United States,” shared Samphel in a Facebook Post on the Inaugural day.
The news turned viral in the Tibetan cyber world. While many Tibetans congratulated him, some asked if he designed the dress. He clarified, “Our head designer did, I helped produce it.”
Alexandra O’Neill, who founded the Markarian label in 2017, designed the outfit, which Tenzin “helped make it come to life.”
Tenzin Samphel, who immigrated with his parents to the US in 2001 at the age of 9, is upbeat about the American dream.
“Thank you to our @markarian_nyc team and to @ali_oniell for believing in me! This is the American dream that my parents have dreamed about and today hope has a new meaning!” wrote Tenzin on his FP post.
